humingbird garden as good as finished

This is the finished piece that is the timtex garden with the humming bird--I do need to finish attaching one side panel, but it was close enough to post. The poem reads:

"In my garden there is a large place for sentiment. My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful." - Abram L. Urban

the other panel is dried flowers from my garden, overlayed with silk organza and outlined with handstitching

back to oils

I haven't painted in oils for a long time--over a year?? maybe longer, but Sunday just called my name for an "oilpaint" day, so I got out the brushes, paint, thinner, etc. etc. and started on a flower that I had picked earlier that morning on my run. I had forgotten how it was to work with oils, very different than the watercolors, acrylic that I have been working with--I still need to finish the piece, but it has to dry a bit--love the flowers---picked several to enjoy! in my perfect vase hand carried from Germany--thanks to my lovely Aunt Betty.

inspiration for March

so March was one of those months.....I am going to use my own face and incorporate it into my art quilt version of "the scream" thanks for the inspiration Edvard Munch

feb in the 50th year

I did this one for art class with Jane LaFazio http://plainjanestudio.com/ think I posted it in progress

one a month for 50th year

Inspired by a fellow artist, I am on my way of making 1 art quilt a month for each of the months in my 50th year. Only she made 1 quilt block a week---I know my limits! ;-)

so this is the one for January--stitched and embellished on purple cotton, using silk transfers of party photos and a napkin from the party

hummingbird nest

husb and son found this humming bird nest right outside the kitchen window--we are watching for the babies-it is the larger "clump" towards the right of the photo--as I watered flowers the other night, baby hummingbirds about 1 inch came to drink from the flowers....I thought maybe they were big moths, but Ethan verified that they were hummingbirds, the head and beak looked very "hummingbird", the body was still fairly small.

my "birthday"tomato plant

this plant had hundreds of tiny tomatoes in january and is starting to bloom all over again-I wonder if it is on steroids? should I be eating these tomatoes? I did move it to the garden and gave it a little miracle grow in march--thank you Mom, for my very fun b-day present!!
